Who We Are

We are a group of medical specialists working in the field of gastrointestinal and liver disease and associated research.  The Society also caters for specialist trainees and non-medical scientists. The majority of our members are located in, or have links within Ireland.

Principal aims

Educational forum

We organise and host regular platforms and conferences allowing members to present clinical and scientific material.

Ongoing Training

The society promotes ongoing education and training in gastroenterology at all levels and in particular in the postgraduate areas of general professional training and higher medical training

International Links

International links are maintained and developed to assist with the flow of information in the field.  Currently, the society enjoys links with the following international bodies.

Membership Structure

We have a varied membership encompassing Consultant and Trainees in the various specialities. These include Gastroenterologists, Surgeons, Pathologists, Radiologists, Immunologists, Consultant Physicians and many others with an interest in Gastroenterology.

Specialist Registrars are automatically members of the Society which also maintains a special relationship with the Irish Society of Endoscopy Nurses and the Hepatology Nurses Association.

Charity Status

The Irish Society of Gastroenterology is a ‘company limited by guarantee but not having a share capital’. The company has been granted Charitable Status by the Revenue Commissioners in Ireland.
